As the weather started to warm up again I decided to take Franky to the park. We went to the Virginia Lake were we took a walk around the lake. Every bush he saw he felt an urge to mark it as his own, every person he saw he wanted to be pampered and loved by them, and unfortunately every duck he saw he had to chase and challenge them because he thought the lake was his property. So I had to keep him on a tight leash, but along the walk I did start to notice that the amount of ducks and goose in the lake had dropped from the last time I came in summer. I think that either some of them migrated or maybe the water quality is really bad because I kept hearing about the water pollution in the lake. Finally after the walk I preceded to take Franky to the dog park area. I took him there with the assumption that Franky would take the chance to play and make new friends. But the opposite occurred as soon as we walked through the gates he proceeded to go pick a fight with the other dogs. So I had to leash him and leave. This came as a surprise because Franky had never fought with any dog at the park before. I don't know what could of triggered this but after this incident it makes me double think about taking Franky out to park again for while till I can be sure he wont start picking fights with other dogs.

Maybe it's not Franky who picks the fights. Having experienced this with my dog, Princess, I noticed that after getting attacked by other dogs she began to be on the defense around all dogs. As soon as she saw something fishy about them or felt threatened she would begin to growl. Trust me my dog is the friendliest dog ever and will never bite a human but after those bad experiences with dogs she's on the defense when it comes to dogs messing with her. Maybe other dogs have been picking on Franky. Or maybe if it's been a while since he was around other dogs other than the ones living with him? However nice blog, I like how you mentioned the changes you noticed in the park and how Franky had to mark his territory.
ReplyDeleteI have two dogs and they are completely opposite from each other. The male dog, Jo-Jo, is a sweetheart, he loves the attention and gets along well with other dogs. My female dog, Jay-Jay, on the other hand barks at every dog she sees coming even though other dogs don't bark at her. I think that dogs sometimes sense something about the other dog and go on protective mode and attack.
ReplyDeleteOkay first off I love Boston terriers. The way you describe him gives this sort of Napoleon-esk personality. The little guy who wants everything. And as to why he's picking fights could be because mammals seem to get more aggressive closer to winter. Might not be the case with all mammals but it's a possibility.
